Frequently Asked Questions

What topics do you cover?
Here are just a few of the things we'll go over:

  • An overview of the 3 Japanese alphabets and word pronunciation.
  • Common greetings / phrases.
  • Ordering in a restaurant.
  • Learning to read / write Hiragana and Katakana.
  • An introduction to Kanji.
  • Adjective and verb conjugations.
  • And much more!

How much do lessons cost? How long are they?
I charge $20 for an hour-long class.

Where and when will lessons be held?
Lessons will always be held in public places such as coffee shops, libraries, etc. I work during the day as a full-time IT Consultant, so lessons will be either in the evenings or on weekends.

Are you fluent in Japanese?
Not yet. But I have been studying for several years and spent one of those living in Japan. I study at home on a regular basis and often take private lessons, myself.

Recently I took the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) in New York for Level 4 certification, and will be taking Level 3 when it is offered this December.

Do you have experience teaching Japanese?
Yes. Prior to moving to Bethlehem, I gave part-time lessons in the Wilkes-Barre and Scranton region.
